Drop-Off and Pick-Up Route
Starting in the 2025-26 school year, student drop-off and pick-up traffic at our combined elementary/high school site will flow in the opposite direction from last year.
Families will now enter through Whitesell Street and loop around the back of Orting Elementary School. You may access Whitesell by:
- Turning from Washington Avenue
- Continuing straight from the side of Safeway
- Entering from Rainier Lane NE
(All routes have been approved by the City of Orting.)
The Ammons Way/162 entrance will no longer be used for drop-off or pick-up. The Orting High School entrance will be closed to through traffic and open only for staff and student parking.
We know this change is not an ideal or permanent solution. However, it is necessary due to the increasing safety risks posed by traffic running through the middle of our campus, the limited number of legal entry/exit points, and the impact on Highway 162 traffic. Our unique site—where a city street bisects the high school and elementary—presents challenges that have grown more concerning as enrollment increases. The addition of 30 portable classrooms on this campus has led to increased congestion, necessitating this change. We will continue to monitor this situation and will adjust as needed to keep students safe.
